I promise not to puke on you

by Connor T. MacIvor on August 27, 2011

We don't puke our Real EstateDo you have any idea what I’m talking about?  I just left a networking meeting and before I get into the Market Reports that Paris and I prepared for the Cities and Communities that are within the Santa Clarita Valley – I will explain further.

When networking, I always ask about others.  I want to know what they do and what makes them different than others in their same industry.  To get to know someone in that way and to get answers to all of those questions takes time.

I rather sit down for 15-20 minutes and really get to know what makes this other “business” owner or “service” provider “Different”.

The 1 minute business card and 30 second stadium pitch method of Networking is a bit sickly these days. If I get to know you I will be more likely to tell others about your business.

If I have you in a “captive” forum, such as on my Radio Show, the connection is like 3 inch in diameter steel bands.

Ask yourself, do you puke or add value? Be Safe.  For more “stop puking” techniques, subscribe to our Santa Clarita Business Blog and Tune into our Santa Clarita Radio Station.

Final Question – is it really necessary to say you are the “#1″ at anything?

Food for thought – let us know in the comments below…

Connor, I couldn’t agree more. Many people who know me know that I have a wealth of resources far and wide and that I love to connect people. I really want to get to know a person and find out how I can serve them by putting them in touch with people that can move their businesses forward or form power partners. I know that eventually it will come back to me. I want to be the go to person. Over time that will bring me business.

I prefer not to give my card out unless I’m asked for it.

Have a great week. And thank you for all you do! How can I serve you, my new friend?
